Our Story

It was a simple event, a speaking engagement at Olivet High School on May 17, 2011.  It involved an all-school assembly for approximately 40 minutes.  The day continued on to an English class for about 30 minutes, listening to some of the amazing community service projects that the students were taking on as part of a class project inspired by the book, "Warriors Don't Cry" by Melba Pattillo Beals.  This day would open the floodgates…

The speaker on that day was Todd "TJ" Duckett and the organizer of the event was Heather Sheets.

We (Todd and Heather) were overwhelmed by the positive energy that Todd's conversation with the kids generated.  We felt like when the day was over and we walked out the door that we lost the connections that were made with students during the day.  After one meeting to debrief the visit, New World Flood was born.
